1. Connect with other people

There’s nothing more comforting than  spending quality time with someone who makes you feel safe and understood. So it’s good to connect regularly, and in person, with family and friends.

Namely, the people you talk to don’t need to correct their stress. Just make them good listeners. Don’t let those worries that make you weak be an impediment to opening up. No doubt people who care about you will be flattered to have your trust; this will strengthen the bond of friendship. 

Of course, it’s not always realistic or possible to have a close friend to lean on when we’re upset by stress. However, building and maintaining a network of friends can improve your resilience to the stresses of life.

2. Challenge your thoughts

If your head is full of negative thoughts, you will feel stressed or anxious. Know that it’s okay to have thoughts or doubts, even if that  doesn’t mean they reflect what’s really going on. While challenging the maelstrom of negativity that accompanies difficult times is not easy, it is necessary to learn to recognize and challenge negative thinking patterns.

Learning to challenge negative thoughts can take time and practice, but it’s worth the effort. Once you get started, you’re likely  to be surprised how many of your thoughts are inaccurate, exaggerated,  or biased toward an inopportune view of things.

So you can start describing what you’re thinking and then add facts that support or refute each thought. It’s likely to surprise you how many of the thoughts are exaggerated or unrealistic.

3. Exercise

Without a doubt,  exercising regularly is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind. Also, exercise improves the mood. Now, it’s good that you do it often, so it’s worth it.

  • Focus on setting fitness goals you can meet so you don’t give up. Above all, remember that doing any exercise is better than none.

In those moments when you don’t know how to overcome stress and anxiety, put on a good pair of sneakers and  go for a run or do another type of activity that allows you to disconnect. That way, you can forget those moments that produce discomfort.
